Publisher Description
Soon to be an HBO original series, Watchmen, the groundbreaking series from award-winning author Alan Moore, presents a world where the mere presence of American superheroes changed history--the U.S. won the Vietnam War, Nixon is still president, and the Cold War is in full effect. Considered the greatest graphic novel in the history of the medium, the Hugo Award-winning story chronicles the fall from grace of a group of superheroes plagued by all-too-human failings. Along the way, the concept of the superhero is dissected as an unknown assassin stalks the erstwhile heroes. This edition of Watchmen, the groundbreaking series from Alan Moore, the award-winning writer of V For Vendetta and Batman: The Killing Joke, and features art from industry legend Dave Gibbons, with high-quality, recolored pages found in Watchmen: Abslolute Edtion.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
This is one of the books that defined the graphic novel format, and it’s easy to see why. Alan Moore’s story of outlawed, half-crazed superheroes struggling with each other while trying to save the planet from destruction is heady stuff—Moore’s multilevel dialogue and storyline are profound on both philosophical and metaphorical levels. At the same time, it taps into the kind of page-turning action that powered comics from the beginning. Accompanied by Dave Gibbons’ moody and explosive illustrations, the graphic novel feels exponentially darker than any superhero adventure that came before it, but just as captivating.
Customer Reviews
Greatest Graphic Novel Period
I read the book early this year, it took me a few months because i wanted to savor it, and i have to say, if i even have a favorite book, its this. If i could give more than 5 stars, i would. Highly recommend whether you like the comic book format or not
A Solid Offering
It’s important to keep in mind when this was published, because it’s one of the first books to explore the personal lives of superheroes, as well as make the reader consider what happens when such power goes unchecked. Many comics and hero-based movies today further expound on the subjects that Moore started back in the 80s. So while it may seem overdone now, back then it was mind blowing.
Very disappointed
In my opinion the end of the book was a real disappointment I won’t spoil it for anyone else but you will be disappointed with the end of the book
