This story is the result of oral teachings from Colleen Mustus, a Cree Elder from Northern Alberta, Canada. It is an easy to read illustrated children’s story about a Cree family making their spring trip to bless the water spirit. In this family, blessing nearby sources of water in the spring and in the winter ensures the safety and health of the surrounding plants, animals and people. On the walk to the lake, the children’s Grandfather teaches his grandchildren to observe and respect the diversity in the plant family. At the lake the children listen to a very beautiful prayer song that emphasizes the interconnection between all life.
