It's perfect for readers who love Martina Boone's Celtic Legends Collection, Nora Roberts' trilogies from Scotland and Ireland, Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER series, Susannah Kearsley's modern gothic novels with a touch of history, or medieval or regency historical fiction featuring men in kilts.

I have always been enchanted with stories that are set in Ireland and Scotland. I could never really explain it, but this book just nails it, why we, readers and authors, are so taken by the land, its history and magical qualities, the tragedy and drama, the deception and treachery. -- Maui Reader
From the Highlands of Scotland to the Beara peninsula in Ireland, this paints the picture of the behind-the-scenes from my favorite romantic novels, giving me new perspectives. And I loved the way it was told--so conversationally that I felt like the author had taken me by the hand and was just telling me a really interesting and personal story. -- ETC Books

The great conflicts of England and the Celtic nations

I have always been enchanted with stories that are set in Ireland and Scotland. I could never really explain it, but this book just nails it, why we, readers and authors, are so taken by the land, its history and magical qualities, the tragedy and drama, the deception and treachery. In the beginning of the book I found myself mapping the areas to follow along as I read this book, especially in Scotland.

This book certainly was an unexpected surprise, I guess I did not expect an author of fiction stories would write a non fiction that is such an interesting and intellectual book without it becoming unwieldy, it was written engagingly and clearly, balancing honest historical perspective grounded with facts. It was easy to read and it is an enjoyable writing style that kept me engrossed making it a fascinating, interesting and informative read. Martina Boone is certainly committed to the subject. They book covers hundreds of years and illuminates so many events and issues that it really helped me to understand what and why happened and the overwhelming brutality of the times. I love how I can now get more of an understanding with my non fiction reading, in those settings anyway, as to the different historical events and places and know which are more likely to be fact or fiction. I always wanted to know how much of a story is fiction and/or truth, or perceived truths.
And then there is the added extras, wow - just wow, a list of songs with lyrics and not just the songs, an explanation of the history of the song. It was awesome. I have only viewed a few so far, but it is a really cool addition to a book. I also love that there are several recipes included too. I have yet to try them, but be assured I will soon. I definitely recommend this as a must read. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
