Publisher Description

From the author of Me & Emma comes a dazzling novel of two unforgettable families bound together by their deepest secrets and haunted pasts—perfect for fans of The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes and The Book of Bright Ideas.

Nine-year-old Carrie Parker and her mother, Libby, are making a fresh start in the small town of Hartsville, North Carolina, ready to put their turbulent past behind them. Violence has shattered their family and left Libby nearly unable to cope. And while Carrie once took comfort in her beloved sister, Emma, her mother has now forbidden even the mention of her name.

When Carrie meets Ruth, Honor, and Cricket Chaplin, these three generations of warmhearted women seem to have the loving home Carrie has always dreamed of. But as Carrie and Cricket become fast friends, neither can escape the pull of their families’ secrets—and uncovering the truth will transform the Chaplins and the Parkers forever.

Long legion ,

Very impressive

I loved Me and Emma so naturally I was anxious to read this sequel. It's a good story, well written, exciting, without being overly dramatic. I liked the flow of the story but was a bit surprised when "honor" started a chapter with her voice..... I would have liked some sort of prior connection with the two families

Emma & Me and What Happened to my Sister

Both are troubling books. I started the second one but realized I should read Emma & Me first and I would recommend everyone do the same. Caroline is a mentally and physically abused child from the get go. Outsiders know this but do nothing about it until she meets Cricket's family. They are dark books but they kept me rooting for Caroline through two well written, depressing books.

The one problem I had is that the author and her editors need to learn the difference between the use of the verbs "laying" and "lying." I don't think the word "lying" was used once but was needed several times.

Disappointed

I thought that this sequel took away a lot from the first book. It's a good read but I was so disappointed.
