Whatever Happened to AIDS? Time to Refocus (Professional) (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome‪)‬

Abstract This paper outlines the changing face of HIV and AIDS in the UK over the past quarter of a century against the backdrop of the global pandemic. It discusses the changing pattern of the HIV infection and its treatment, and associated shifting attitudes and prejudices. It considers the influence of migration to the UK of individuals from high prevalence countries, on both the epidemiology of HIV and the resultant health needs of today's multicultural UK population. Finally, it recommends a refocusing on the subject by the government and professionals involved in health preventive services within the community setting.
