When Pigs Fly

Why flying pigs? 

Over the past 200 years other creatures have been cited in similar phrases - 'snails may fly', 'cows might fly' etc., but it is pigs that have stood the test of time - maybe because the image evoked is one of an animal particularly unsuited to flight!


I thought by borrowing the concept of a complete impossibility - which is a flying pig - then expanding it into fifteen other animals could be a hoot for preschoolers and kindergartners. As every parent knows, preschoolers and kindergartners have an especially keen appreciation for silly characters and situations. So if a flying pig can be funny, then a snake that bakes, or an ape lifting weights can also be.


In addition to showcasing great pictures drawn by talented illustrators, I also wanted to provide parents and guardians with a clever way to reinforce a few core early learning skills, specifically shape and color recognition and counting. So included with every full-page illustration are smaller images that are cues to further engage those wonderful, developing minds.
