Publisher Description
De La Salle High School in Concord, California, is home to perhaps the greatest dynasty in sports history. At age 23, Coach Bob Ladouceur launched a legend, "The Streak," with no teaching or head-coaching experience, and with his teams amassed the highest winning percentage in all of football history with 138 consecutive victories. This book takes readers behind the scenes, closely following individual players, as Ladouceur guides his team through the most daunting schedule in school history, the 2002 season. Numerous interviews with major-league coaches such as Bill Walsh, Steve Mariucci, and John Gruden show the depth of respect accorded to Ladouceur and his methods and philosophies. Written with full cooperation from the coach and including dozens of photographs, this book is perfect for anyone interested in the factors behind phenomenal team success.

When the Game Stands Tall
If you have any interest in high school sports, any high school sport, Coach, Parent, Teacher, Player, Student, Booster, or Fan, this book was meant for you! The look into the football program at De La Salle was fantastic. To read the words of Coach Lad, and hear from his assistants and players was a real treat!
As a coach in Southern California and the California Central Valley I have paid attention to the achievements of this storied program for years and am grateful for the view, provided by this book, of the streak. To hear of the struggles faced by everyone involved was interesting, to say the least.
This book is a must read for coaches that want to know, "what's the secret?" I am glad to know it is hard work, dedication to the mission, and above all else, perspective. Maintaining one's perspective is paramount to success.
Thank You for the fine book!
