This stunning fantasy inspired by Chinese folklore is a companion novel to Starry River of the Sky and the New York Times bestselling and National Book Award finalist When the Sea Turned to Silver
In the valley of Fruitless mountain, a young girl named Minli lives in a ramshackle hut with her parents. In the evenings, her father regales her with old folktales of the Jade Dragon and the Old Man on the Moon, who knows the answers to all of life's questions. Inspired by these stories, Minli sets off on an extraordinary journey to find the Old Man on the Moon to ask him how she can change her family's fortune. She encounters an assorted cast of characters and magical creatures along the way, including a dragon who accompanies her on her quest for the ultimate answer.
Grace Lin, author of the beloved Year of the Dog and Year of the Rat returns with a wondrous story of adventure, faith, and friendship. A fantasy crossed with Chinese folklore, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a timeless story reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz and Kelly Barnhill's The Girl Who Drank the Moon. Her beautiful illustrations, printed in full-color, accompany the text throughout. Once again, she has created a charming, engaging book for young readers.

This book is the best, I love the story’s, characters, and minli’ adventures
My favorite book of all time.
I remember being gifted this book as a child the year it was published. For fourteen years I’ve been obsessed. And still read it often as an adult when I’m feeling blue.
The hook is unlike any other, and the entire plot keeps me wanting more.
Grace Lin did such a wonderful job intertwining the stories Minli was told throughout the entirety of the book, with her journey and conclusion. The words used to describe such detail, really put you in Minlis point of view- and that’s probably my most favorite part. No matter how many times I read this book, it always feels like the first time. I’m ALWAYS left in wonder and awe, and genuinely can not get enough.
I’m so thankful to have had this story inserted into my life. Thank you Grace Lin! I love your works. ❤️
My teacher read this at school and it’s so good
The fact that my 5th grade teacher reads this book at school and every one in the class wanted to know what’s going to happens after the chapter and it’s always a surprise to us and we read it all.
