Where the Road Gives Way

Richard Singer and his wife Judith are lifted off their moorings when Nathan, their brilliant and sensitive elder son, shuts down halfway through his second year of college. Nathan drops out, becoming increasingly defeated and immobilized. Is it the onset of mental illness or a crisis of meaning? To Richard, the Woodstock-era dreamer turned high-tech corporate achiever, it is clearly the latter. Judith, Richard's wife, the self-proclaimed realist of the family, feels certain that her long held fears of the former have finally been confirmed. The crisis tears at the heart of the family and the marriage. Richard is forced to re-examine many of the assumptions upon which his "successful" life has been based. It is their punk-rocking, skateboarding younger son Kyle who ultimately takes them to the place where they can begin to unravel the knot.
