Publisher Description

Harlan is only in Vegas for two nights for his brother's wedding. His parents want Harlan married, too, and not to a man. What would people say? Not that Harlan cares. He doesn't like most people, and he enjoys making sure they dislike him in return. He can play nice long enough to finalize a contract or get laid, what more does he need? He definitely doesn't need a date with his smart-mouthed waiter. But he wants one. Maybe more than one.

Apolo doesn't get paid enough to take crap from customers. On the other hand, he might be willing to take something else from the rude but hot whiskey snob in the expensive suit. Especially since he seems amused rather than offended by Apolo's attitude. Apolo doesn't have anything (or anyone) better to do tonight. But if it's just sex, why has he somehow agreed to go to a wedding with Harlan? As Harlan's husband?

Harlan is abrasive and Apolo is prickly. They both want the last word and neither likes to lose. Is it possible that being equally stubborn is how they both win?

INTRIGUING!

“Whiskey and Salt” is a short, sexy read, but there’s more to it! Mere Rain has a way to bring Harlan and Apolo together to make a very entertaining story.

Harlan is thirty, has a law degree and owns his own brokerage firm. He’s made his fortune without the help of anyone. He doesn’t rely on anyone but himself, doesn’t care to make friends, and not into commitments. One offs work fine with him. He says what he feels and doesn’t hold back. His parents and brother, think they can just run his life but Harlan doesn’t let them rule him.

After the Las Vegas wedding rehearsal for his brother, Harlan goes in search of an out of the way bar. He’s had it with the unsupportive family confrontations. He finds a bar and is ready to just get wasted but little does he know he will meet his match. The young waiter, Apolo, holds his own when it comes to Harlans snarky and brash comments and it becomes a competition. Harlan doesn’t realize what potential Apolo has. He’s a hard worker, two jobs and putting himself though college a little at a time. When Harlan propositions him, he’s up for the challenge.

This is my first read by Mere Rain and even though this is a quick read, it is well written and brings out the right amount of emotions and family drama to understand Harlan’s feelings. As for Apolo he was just a fun, easy going but very smart character and I loved him. Mere Rain makes it easy to read so much more into her characters with her writing.

As sexy as “Whiskey and Salt” is Harlan and Apolo hold this story together with their different personalities. They are really likable, snarky, prickly, abrasive, or whatever you choose to call it, but they are never physically or mentally abusive to each other. In fact, Harlans plans for revenge actually benefit Apolo with a severance package. Apolos not naive or whinny and knows how to take care of himself. He has friends, something that Harlan doesn’t have. The author gradually gives a changing view of Harlan and doesn’t need to express either characters every thought or feelings, but as a reader, you see things starting to develop.

Well done, Mere Rain, I liked it!
