#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts weaves together passion and obsession, humor and heart, in a novel of two people opening themselves up to the truth—and to each other.
For more than three hundred years, Bluff House has sat above Whiskey Beach, guarding its shore—and its secrets. But to Eli Landon, it’s home.
A Boston lawyer, Eli has weathered an intense year of public scrutiny and police investigations after being accused of—but never arrested for—the murder of his soon-to-be ex-wife.
He finds sanctuary at Bluff House, even though his beloved grandmother is in Boston recuperating from a nasty fall. Abra Walsh is always there, though. Whiskey Beach’s resident housekeeper, yoga instructor, jewelry maker and massage therapist, Abra is a woman of many talents—including helping Eli take control of his life and clear his name. But as they become entangled in each other, they find themselves caught in a net that stretches back for centuries—one that has ensnared a man intent on reaping the rewards of destroying Eli Landon once and for all.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This spellbinding contemporary from romantic fiction doyenne Roberts (The Perfect Hope) explores the centuries-old secrets of a New England seaside home. Eli Landon is suspected of murdering his adulterous wife, but there's no evidence to convict him. Needing to escape his old life, he returns to his family's ancestral home of Bluff House, along New England's Whiskey Beach. Eli is caught off guard by his attraction to Abra Walsh, the house's beautiful caretaker. When Abra is attacked by a mysterious intruder, a private detective starts asking questions about Eli, and he decides that he will never find closure until his wife's killer is caught. The mysteries behind the murder of Eli's wife and the suspicious incidents at Bluff House are very creatively combined with the budding romance between Eli and Abra, who must face their past demons before they can embrace the possibility of a future together. Roberts enthralls the reader with enigmatic characters and effortless plotting from the first page of this masterfully crafted novel.

Like fusion cuisine: too much going on to enjoy anything...
This is, at best, a competent novel if it, but only if it were written by another author. The narrative loses focus; secondary characters enter and leave, while a convoluted mystery enters from nowhere to explain disconnected events.
Please, NR, stop offering up the equivalent of a puppy mill. Fewer novels with great characters and plot development are missed!!
Not the typical NR book...
I love Nora and have read too many of her books to count, but this one just lacked something that her mystery/romance novels usually have. The main characters were alright. There weren't enough characters in the book to really keep you guessing on who done it. This is honestly one of her first books ever where I figured out the killer before she unveiled it, so that was disappointing. The most annoying part about this book, though, is easily the ridiculous treasure hunter theme with Esmeralda's Dowry. What a joke that was, and totally unbelievable cause for the entire plot. Oh well, guess I'll be waiting for the next one to come out!
Whiskey Beach
Love Nora Roberts but I felt like someone else wrote this book for her. Not at all up to her standards!
