"Who Goes There?" is the novella that formed the basis of John Carpenter's film The Thing. Campbell's classic story tells of an Antarctic research base that discovers and thaws the ancient, frozen body of a crash-landed alien—with terrifying results!

Fun to read the story that inspired the movie “The Thing.”
Enjoyable short read. Surprisingly philosophical for an alien monster tale. Fascinating to see the parts that were lifted and used in the movie, and what was left out.
Not bad, but…
Admittedly I watched the films before deciding to pick up this book. It’s an incredibly quick read, but a lot of the writing focuses more on the physiology of creature and the scientific qualifications of the scientists, and less on the characters and dopplegangers. I was expecting more action, ultimately it’s just characters running labs and tests on each other to determine who is the creature and who isn’t. Still a good read
