It was a brief piece of news on the morning news. A friend called and read the news to me. Nothing special at all. Just a piece of news written by a novice reporter who has just graduated from school.
Date, street corner, a trucker, a pedestrian, a dead person, an investigation into the possibility of an accident caused by carelessness.
It sounds like a poem printed in the folded hand of a magazine.
“Where is the funeral held?” I ask.
"Who knows," he replied. “Does it have a family?”
Of course she has a family.
I called the police station to find her phone number and home address, and then I called her home to ask for more details about the funeral.
Her family lives in an old town in Tokyo. I took out a map and marked the street in red ink. Subways, trains, and buses are everywhere, all overlapping like a twisted spider web, forming a maze of narrow streets and sewage ditches.
