Social Stories™ are structured stories which are used to explain social situations to children with autism and learning delays. They also help children learn socially appropriate behaviour and responses.

 

Social Stories™ might be less effective for children with poor comprehension skills. For this reason Family Time Australia have developed Social Stories™ that are appropriate for majority of ages and skill level of the child.

People with autism or learning delays can often misunderstand or don’t pick up on social cues such as body language, facial expressions, gestures and eye contact. Social Stories™ were developed as an intervention for children to learn how they should behave in social settings by explicitly pointing out details about situations and appropriate actions and responses to these situations. These details help children pick up on cues they would normally overlook.

Social Stories™ are also a great way for teaching typically developing children appropriate behaviour and can be used in kindergartens, schools and group settings.
