Samuel Bond was born in Teignmouth, Devon in 1851 and after serving his apprenticeship as a boat builder with Morgan Giles of Teignmouth, he went to sea as a ship’s carpenter, serving for several years on commercial sailing ships and large yachts. He set
up in business in Liverpool in 1876, having a workshop on Sparling Street.
