Wisdom Wisdom

Publisher Description

We all recognize wisdom, but defining it is more elusive. In this fascinating journey from philosophy to science, Stephen S. Hall gives us a penetrating history of wisdom, from its sudden emergence in the fifth century B.C. to its modern manifestations in education, politics, and the workplace. Hall’s bracing exploration of the science of wisdom allows us to see this ancient virtue with fresh eyes, yet also makes clear that despite modern science’s most powerful efforts, wisdom continues to elude easy understanding.

Take the time and read this book

I read this book over several days and pondered and continue to ponder its contents. Hall does an outstanding job of taking what could be a dreary subject which can lend itself to sermonizing and has turned it into a journalistic jewel. The book's prose reflects the author's background as a journalist. It's well written and extremely interesting. From philosophy quotes to the neuroscience lab, wisdom is explored in different contexts and, I must add, I have gone on to purchase other books referenced in this work. The book has an excellent bibliography to continue to explore the subject. I am purchasing and reading more books by Stephen Hall and I will be recommending wisdom widely to friends and colleagues. I will be bringing this book up in conversation with the men in my group as well.
