Wolf Hall takes readers back to the 16th century. It follows the life of Thomas Cromwell and how he came to power during the reign of Henry VIII. At the time, England was at the cusp of disaster. In the midst of this uncertainty, Cromwell asserts himself as a force to be reckoned with. As one of King Henry’s ministers he helped annul the marriage to Catherine of Aragon and ultimately break the church in England away from the papacy.
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel was awarded the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Critics’ Circle Award in 2012. It is considered among the “10 best historical novels” by pundits. There has been much media attention surrounding the release of this book. The BBC made an adaptation of Wolf Hall, which was aired in 2015.The first episode was aired on PBS Masterpiece Theatre with Mark Rylance playing the role of Thomas Cromwell.
