who knew?

I really enjoyed this book. It has a clever way of attacking the zombie genre ( which i'm not personally into.. but thought i'd give this book a try). Quick, thought provoking "excerpts." You can read it 10 minutes at a time or blast the book in a quick 4 hours>> give it a try though>> just read a sample and I bet you get captivated.

Zombie Best!

This is by far the best zombie story ever written. Based on an entirely believable progression of a fictitious epidemic. A truly imaginable and well explained disease that makes the idea of the walking dead seem absolutely plausible.

This book should cause a feeling of urgent need to read The Zombie Survival Guide.

If you need a hero to follow, watch a movie. I recommend Zombie Land.

When you want a vivid picture of the world littered with walking corpses and the desperation of the living human race, read World War Z.

World War Z

Written from a war corespondent point of view. Keeps it very interesting, how the author tells the whole tale of the war, thru survivors stories, was new and fresh.

Have the survival guide too, to ensure increased chances of survival of the Zombie Apocalypse.

A political book

This book only uses zombies as a vehicle for a discussion on the nature of consumerism, and global economics as a means for social fragmentation and subjugation of the poor. I found the story highly entertaining and quite a page-turner, but the author Can be very heavy handed with his politics. In that regard, it made his gruesome descriptions of zombies seem kind of trite given the dense social commentary that is clearly the real purpose of the work. If you're going to read this, just know that about it.

An amazing book

Everyone who has ever remotely been interested in (or terrified by) zombies should give this a read.

Fun read

If you don't mind reading characters with the same basic voices this is a good read. Very entertaining. My biggest complaint was the characters that were created. They were supposed to be from all over the world and most of them ended up sounding like americans. The interview format also gets a bit tiring and it seems to have spawned (in my mind) from the characterization. But if you like fiction historical recounts it is a load of fun.

Unfortunately obvious to the edge of juvenile.

I wanted to like this book. A detailed accounting of the intricacies of rebooting our society in an attempt to hold a mirror up to ourselves and discover that our priorities are out of whack. what could be better!? Well it almost hits the mark. If you're 16-17, I can see absolutely loving this book. If you're any older, it simply is not nuanced enough. An example of this is when he goes into an explanation on reeducation of the upper class by the the working class. A cleaning lady ends up the professor of a lecture in which her former employer is an unhappy participant. A former creative director pitches a fit and rants about how much money she used to make and how her working class instructor is try to degrade her by sharing his knowledge on plumbing. Characters are 2 dimensional and when Brooks attempts to make a character multifaceted, rather than black and white, his clumsy attempts are painfully obvious. It's as if this is a script for a 2 hour movie, not a full novel in which he could have fleshed out the details and conveyed the intricacies of human social interaction. I would have loved this at a much younger age. Not a bad gift for a tween. On second thought... Goosebumps is probably more fleshed out and well thought... Seriously.

Thoroughly entertaining but...

The thing that makes world war Z so disturbing isn't the zombies it's the realistic look at humanity and the human condition. I spent much of the book saying"I could totally see people doing that!" Definitely recommend, couldn't put it down!

Like it was Real

I bought this book upon recommendation from a friend who hadn't even read it yet. But the way he described it made me what to read it. Just finished it and I have to say it read like it was a real accounting. There were some spots that I though a bit of a stretch, but I can't complain as I couldn't put the book (iPad) down. I actually believed in the characters telling their story and wanted to know more of what happened, how it happened, and why it happened as if it well actually history and I could easily Google it to learn more.
