Ten years ago, a chance meeting at the Lighthouse Café in Redondo Beach led Sam Fargo and Remi Longstreet on the adventure of a lifetime, hunting the legendary riches stolen from the Persian King Croesus in 546 B.C. But they weren't the only ones. Someone else is after the gold, and he's willing to kill anyone who gets in his way.
When Sam and Remi run afoul of a criminal drug-running operation, their hopes of finding the treasure are dashed. But with Sam's ingenuity and Remi's determination, they survive their confrontation with the drug runners, and manage to send one of the key players to prison. Though the cache of gold is never found, life goes on. Sam and Remi marry--and years later return to Greece to find the one treasure that got away.
Time becomes their enemy when the kingpin they helped send to prison over a decade ago is released--and he has two goals in mind. Find the legendary hoard of King Croesus, and kill Sam and Remi Fargo. The Fargos know that as long as this gold is out there, no one is safe. They return to Greece for a final showdown--and one last chance to find that elusive treasure.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Early in bestseller Cussler's posthumous 12th Sam and Remi Fargo adventure (after 2019's The Oracle, also coauthored with Burcell), an intriguing origin story, treasure hunters Sam and Remi meet with St. Julien Perlmutter, "a world authority on maritime history," concerning the one treasure they never found, a hoard of gold stolen from King Cyrus in 546 BCE. Sam tells Perlmutter how he met Remi Longstreet 10 years earlier at a caf in Hermosa Beach, Calif. The attraction was mutual, and, after getting to know each other better, Sam and Remi decided to go to the Greek island of Fourni to search for the treasure trove known as Poseidon's Trident. Also hunting the treasure was wealthy Greek businessman Adrian Kyril, who would stop at nothing to find the gold. Flashbacks detail Sam and Remi's exciting battle to thwart Kyril. In the present, events make it imperative that the Fargos return to Fourni to take up the Poseidon's Trident mystery once again. Readers will keep turning the pages to see what happens next. Series fans will hope Cussler's recent death won't mean the end of this popular series.
Customer Reviews
The Fargo’s
I’m glad that they finally went back in time to tell the beginning story of Sam & Remi but I’m sad because there isn’t another book yet in the series but the whole series of the adventures of the Fargo’s, has been a fantastic journey I’ve always loved the books by Clive Cussler he is a great writer who does his homework and research. This book along with the rest of the series is well worth the time to read if you like mystery and suspense and treasures thank you Mr Cussler for giving me the thrill of reading your books.
Decent story, bad flow
It’s okay. The flow of the book made me wanting to finish it difficult. Most of the book is basically reads like “Sam went to the beach, (brief scene where Sam rescues a guy and meets Remi), Sam goes to a bar and meets remi again. Remi gets kidnapped, but Sam makes a call and finds where Remi is, Sam rescues Remi. Then Sam and Remi kiss, go diving, and decide to bring down the evil son of a rich man”. It breezes through a lot of story telling, with some actual scenes sprinkled in.
Dreck on the deck
What a waste of time, from writing to publishing to reading. Just plain trash. Save your time and your money.
