"I closed the book on many things that night as we made our way home, avoiding large puddles on the dead quiet, wet streets – whilst we danced, there must have been a great downpour, because we had to step onto the road – we ended up having to walk pretty much in the middle of it – and that gave us an added sense of freedom – a sense of infinite freedom – and I felt that that night was a dividing point in my life – that it was a night that anything could happen. 

Aiden walked me home gallantly – we said goodbye at the gate, and after shutting it behind me, I sighed loudly – with the clicking of the lock, my brain, my heart, and my soul shut the Morliath treasure chest – filled with wonderful, and not so wonderful memories – which I knew, in the hands of time would morph and alter over the years – and one day, in a distant future, I might have enough strength to open it again, and look inside, to see what has changed, but until then… 

I took a deep breath – it was the beginning of a new life. 

I turned to face it. 

And I froze on the spot. 


What is Y? 

In genetics it's a chromosome. 

In mathematics it's an unknown number. 

But whatever could it mean in love? 

Lies? 

Self-sacrifice? 

Life? 

Or death? 

This first part to the series is filled with questions. 

And the answers are within us. 

But we must know – that we don't always make the decisions. 

After all, it's not what the girl wanted. 

Or the boy. 

Or the world.
