Publisher Description
Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep. It is a state of conscious Deep Sleep. In Meditation, you remain in the Waking state of consciousness, and gently focus the mind, while allowing thought patterns, emotions, sensations, and images to arise and go on. However, in Yoga Nidra, you leave the Waking state, go past the Dreaming state, and go to Deep Sleep, yet remain awake. While Yoga Nidra is very relaxing, it is also used by Yogis to purify the Samskaras, the deep impressions that are the driving force behind Karma. The form of Yoga Nidra described in this article can be called Advanced Yoga Nidra. Unfortunately, almost any guided practice that brings a modicum of relaxation is now called Yoga Nidra. Therefore, it is now virtually essential that we use another term, such as Authentic Yoga Nidra, Traditional Yoga Nidra, or Advanced Yoga Nidra.

The Best Yoga Nidra
There are many audios offering yoga nidra. Swami J offers a true yoga nidra, meaning he takes you down the path towards the "conscious deep sleep" that YN promises. Other teachers include sankalpa and imaging, and these are good practices worth trying, but they are not a true yoga nidra in the traditional sense of the word. Swami J offers the real deal. I have had his yoga nidra guided audio for about 6 years now, and I also own several other instructor's guided audio. I can tell you Swami J's is second to none, and it's very effective. Highly recommended!
Excellent resource!
I have found this Yoga Nidra practice to be extremely helpful for me, an anxious person who generally sleeps without waking refreshed. I have practiced with this meditation for years now and I have truly experienced the deep state it promises, even if it did take me quite a few nights of trying. I wake feeling more rested and I approach other areas of my life with more effortless awareness. Swami's voice is perfect as he speaks clearly, in a low, constant, deeply relaxing voice, free of judgement or condescension. I highly recommend this practice.
