Sarah Hogle’s delightful novel follows two people who finally realize their toxic relationship needs to end, only to discover that this might be the start of something new—and great. Naomi used to be crazy about Nicholas, but as their wedding date approaches, she starts to have serious doubts. Unfortunately, whoever calls off the party gets stuck with the bill. The devilish pranks that Naomi and Nicholas pull off in an effort to get the other one to break things off are laugh-out-loud funny. But what’s even more fun about their journey is that, somewhere between embarrassing each other in restaurants and hiding each other’s shoes, Naomi and Nicholas discover how much they have in common. With a narrator readers will either love or hate, Hogle's over-the-top debut takes the progression of lovers-to-enemies (and back to lovers) to an unbelievable extreme. Almost two years after Naomi Westfield and Nicholas Rose's first date, the picture perfect couple is engaged and Nick's overbearing mother, Deborah, is planning their wedding. Naomi despises Deborah and Nick can't stand Naomi's artsy work friends. And Nick and Naomi have grown to loath one another as well, but have kept that a secret since neither can break the engagement without incurring massive bills and embarrassment. Instead, they embark on an all-out prank war as each tries to get the other to end things first. Though the couple's shenanigans are written as humorous fun that help them rediscover the joy of their relationship and slowly bring them back together, the pranks themselves frequently verge on gaslighting and actual cruelty: Naomi sabotages Nick's business and breaks his phone, Nick berates Naomi and dangles the potential of him having an affair in her face. Hogle has a gift for detail and narrative flow, but many readers will grow frustrated by Naomi's voice, which alternates between snarkiness and whininess. This rom-com is not for the faint of heart.

Loved it!
I absolutely loved this book. Granted, it was a bit slow in the beginning because the two main characters did NOT like each other at all. I would say that for a quarter or so of the book they’re making jabs at each other, but it’s all really fun! Even when they don’t like each other the comedy is really really good. And when they DO like each other—gosh, the epitome of romance. Sweet, tender, wholesome, just so perfect and honest and loving. I love these characters and this book.

This book was a joy to read! The pranks on one other, loving each other- hating each other-loving each other again, this book was so romantic, hilarious, and heartwarming. Nicholas and Naomi’s relationship was so funny, I laughed every time they pranked each other to see which one calls off the wedding, which I was right none of them won, because in the end they both got married to each other. This is my first time reading Sarah Hogle, and she did a wonderful job writing the characters in the book. Nicholas mom was trying so hard to make it look like it’s her wedding instead of Nicholas and Naomi’s wedding, she never asked the bride or the groom what they wanted she just automatically picked for them.
