Publisher Description

“The iSTEM Teacher Scholars program, combined with the successes of my first year integrating GIS into my classroom, fundamentally shifted my perspective. I now teach a semester-long geospatial exploratory with 7th graders where what we can map is only as limited as their interests and imagination. For example, recent projects focused on the sales pattern of Samoas, Tagalongs, Savannah Smiles across the greater Charlottesville footprint. In my current role as a gifted resource teacher, I am able to bring mini-lessons and projects into classrooms and show my colleagues how GIS can enrich and extend the thinking of all learners, regardless of content or ability levels. When I facilitate GIS professional development with other teachers, I find encourage them to embrace their hesitations and bring the technology into their classrooms. Start small or start big. Just do something.”
