Yours Forever... Maybe
Yours Forever... Maybe is the story of four very different modern women whose lives are all in some way intertwined. The main part of the story focuses on Marla, a woman who is struggling to find herself after marrying (and divorcing) an actor, and living on the Hollywood scene. The other three women - Carol, Linda, and Xiùmĕi - all have lesser parts in the story, but make it interesting none the less. They each have a vice (or several), and while they all live very different lives they somehow seem to have a lot in common.
I loved the Hollywood setting - as someone who lives very far removed from that kind of thing, I think it makes a great book setting. It felt like the author really knew what was going on in the Hollywood world, even the seedy parts of it, and it really added to the story. There were a lot of angles to the story, from the entertainment world to prostitution, drugs, and international crime, and I think all were covered very well.
The characters were very believable, and I think almost anyone would be able to relate to Marla in some way or another - her struggles with her mother, with men, with trusting people, etc. It was her story that really propelled me through the book, although the other stories certainly added to it.
I thought the plot was fairly well thought out, and I kept reading wanting to know more about what would happen to Marla next! I think this is a great book for a vacation or anytime you want some light reading - it's fun and easy to follow.
