Publisher Description

Zonk's dream has come true, he has found the ocean and has become a "sea tortoise". Imagine how it must feel for a heavy-shell laden tortoise to float effortlessly with jellyfish, to play tag with the Vaquita (a rare and tiny porpoise), and somersault with gray whales. This is Zonk's ocean adventure and is just as full of stunning art, as the first book in the Zonk, the Dreaming Tortoise children's picture book series.

This book has 27 beautiful full-page, full-color, original watercolor paintings. It includes lots of new characters, sea animals, birds and mammals. The book is appropriate for preschool all the way up to 9-year-olds. All of the Zonk books are available in hardcover print as well. This is the second book in the Zonk the Dreaming Tortoise children's picture book series.

Sleeping on the beach at night, Zonk is awakened by a thump under his shell. He has inadvertently made his bed on top of a sea turtle nest and is awakened by a hatchling digging her way out. He protects the sea turtle hatchling as she makes her way into the waves, racing away from the predators on the beach. In the ocean lurks more danger, and Zonk finds a cave for them to hide in. The cave becomes a tunnel leading into a landlocked lagoon where everyone is a vegetarian. Safe at last!

But of course this is just the beginning. In the lagoon they meet manta rays, bats, pelicans, and even a mysterious "Black Smoker". When the baby sea turtle is discovered with a small crab in her mouth, they are told to leave the lagoon. Rather than risking another encounter with the moray eels hiding in the tunnel, they ask the manta ray to fly over the ridge and out of the lagoon. Gathering in the waves of the open sea, this new fellowship: Zonk, Fish, Emily (the sea turtle) and Manta head off for a new adventure. Don’t miss book three in Zonk’s adventures.

The artwork is beautiful. Children and adults just love it. The very colorful watercolor paintings have their own small, but dedicated, following and collectors. Very small children, that are perhaps too young to follow the stories, are absolutely captivated by the wonderful artwork and numerous amusing characters. This book contains 27 full page, original watercolor paintings.

In this adventure the friends share hardship, help each other out and pull together to solve their common problems, all great lessons for small children. This is book two in the very popular, Zonk, the Dreaming Tortoise picture book series, which has three books to date. These books are great fun, visually stunning, educational and wonderfully entertaining.

All the Zonk books include some value-added features. In the front of the book is a simple map of where that story takes place. In the second and third book are additional maps that further illuminate that particular story.

The science, that is biology and geography, are correct and current within the fantasy of a swimming tortoise and talking animals in each of the books. On the end pages of these books are small glossaries of terms, explanations of some of the geographic areas the stories take place in, additional information about some of the animals in the stories, and explanations of some of the ecosystem relationships between the creatures.

The books are ecologically sensitive and on the end pages present, in a gentle way that will not frighten, tiny windows into some of success stories and the problem areas of environmental issues faced by the characters and ecosystems in the books. These materials are designed to be a jumping off place for teachers and parents to begin to talk to their children about how to value and take care of our environment and creatures.

Beautiful artwork, humorous and entertaining stories, fascinating cast of characters and animals, and educational, order your copy today.

    ZONK, and the Secret Lagoon

Before reading Zonk, and the Secret Lagoon I read Zonk the Dreaming Tortoise and again, I found this is another very inspiring story for children and adults. Zonk represents the spirit that drives us to dare beyond an ordinary life to keep evolving within the nature of that magnificent world that always awaits our inner hero to help us to develop the best potential of ourselves.
