Kate looked back at her beloved Bermuda Isle. She was on her way to England, anxious to be with her father once again.

Her first glimpse of the man who was to turn her life upside down was as at sea. His name was Captain Branwell, Earl of Mannering. As their ships slowly passed, their eyes locked and his image became imbedded in her mind.

Once in England, Kate had heard a great deal about the earl and his reputation with women, but she was drawn to him all the same. Still, there was her father's companion, Perry Banyon keeping her company but her dear Aunt Sarah and her governess, Nell did not seem to approve of Perry.
