Zane Grey (1872–1939) was an American author best known for his popular adventure novels set in the American West. Often called the “father of the Western novel,” Grey wrote more than 90 books, including classics like Riders of the Purple Sage (1912). His stories romanticized frontier life, featuring cowboys, outlaws, and rugged landscapes, shaping the Western genre in literature and film. Grey’s vivid descriptions and adventurous plots made him one of the best-selling authors of his time.
