Samir Kumar Gupta, is an eighty year old orthopaedic surgeon interested in everything except politics. Hobbies are work, sports and games, listening to and composing music, writing and meeting people. Have written a few books in Bengali, mostly on life’s experience, one of the books surprisingly won a Paschim Banga Bangla Academy’s Suprabha Mazumder Memorial Prize in 2011.

Researched on Salil Chowdhury since 1993, has produced two books in Bengali, the present book is English translation of one of them. The other book is an appreciation of Salil Chowdhury’s poetry. The book on own Salil Chowdhury’s literary works is ready for publication. Enjoys being the editor of Bengali magazine Miley Mishey.
