Sunday Sunshine, edited by Catharine Shaw, gathers devotional stories and Bible-centered sketches that teach faith, kindness, obedience, repentance, and trust through vivid everyday scenes. The collection ranges from childlike wonder and quiet domestic suffering to moments of crisis, conversion, and sacrificial love. In "Hira's Quest," a blind Hindu girl in an Indian settlement endures poverty and loneliness until a stranger's hymn and the warning, "Prepare to meet thy God," awaken in her the first stirrings of spiritual understanding. Other pieces show how small mercies can become God's messages: a child's walk, flowers, and a lark comfort an ailing woman; Jesus' compassion to the woman who anointed His feet reveals forgiveness and humility. Later sketches follow Jim Adams, a broken sailor stirred toward hope by little Liz Sheppard, whose kindness and Christian witness help lead him toward redemption, even as he dies saving another in a storm at sea. "Her Sailor Boy" centers on a homesick fisherman and gold-seeker drawn home by his mother's plea and the Scriptures he learned at her side.
