The Call of the Wild
Publisher Description
In this novel (often mistakingly classified a children’s book) the main protagonist Buck, a St. Bernard/Collie mix, is abducted and sold to a trainer of sled dogs in Alaska. He adapts to the brutal conditions and is finally acquired by a loving man. When this new owner is killed, Buck follows the ‘call of the wild’ and joins a pack of wolves.

A read that overwhelms
I'm not the one good with words, but I'll try my best to put my feelings down in written form. This started as my reading material for my assignment, but before that I knew the book is one of the classics, so my expectations were high, as I have also read another book that explores similar premise ("White Fang" - which I love and adore). I was not let down. With English as my second language, the range of vocabulary and grammatical structures definitely overwhelmed me and gave me a hard time understanding complex sentences. But I fought my way through as the story got more exciting and more intense page after page. My imagination was helped soar high by the detailed, beautifully worded description of nature, emotions, and intensity. Sadness was looming about between lines, but was rarely dealt with head-on and life kept going in that stead. The story got hauntingly brutal sometimes and the author never failed to paint a realistic picture of it, so make no mistake, this is not a children book.
It has been long the last time I read a book cover to cover in one sitting, and I'd say it was a read to remember.
