The Transvaal from Within

This book is a fascinating read of the events in the Transvaal leading up to and during the Jamieson Raid, written by one of the participants in the events. Although modern historians are giving Paul Kruger a positive gloss in true revisionist fashion, his government fares very badly in contemporary accounts. This book struggles hard to be fair minded and even handed but fails to exonerate this corrupt, inefficient regime which so angered the mining magnates of the Rand.
