Publisher Description

The exciting first book in a new Dunetrilogy

It is 83 years after the last of the thinking machines were destroyed in the Battle of Corrin, after Faykan Butler established himself as the first Emperor of a new imperium. War hero Vorian Atreides has turned his back on Salusa Secundus, flying off to parts unknown. Abulurd Harkonnen, convicted of cowardice, was sent away to live on gloomy Lankiveil, and his descendants continue to blame Vor for the downfall of their fortunes.

Raquella Berto-Anirul has formed the Bene Gesserit School as the first Reverend Mother. Descendants of Aurelius Venport and Norma Cenva have built a powerful transportation company using mutated Navigators who fly "spacefolder ships".

Gilbertus Albans has established a school on bucolic Lampadas teaching humans to become Mentats. Even so, decades after the defeat of the thinking machines, anti-technology fervor continues to sweep across the human-settled planets, with powerful fanatical groups imposing violent purges…

'Frank Herbert would surely be delighted and proud of this continuation of his vision' DEAN KOONTZ

'In a word, satisfying; all DUNE fans will want to investigate, newcomers will be tempted... it should promote fresh interest in the magnificent original series' Kirkus

'The attendant excitement and myriad revelations not only make this a terrific read in its own right but will inspire readers to turn, or return, to its great predecessor'

Still a decent read.

What can we say about the recent Dune series books, as much as I did enjoy Kevin J Anderson’s saga of the seven sun’s that influence isn’t really shown here. The son is definitely not on the same level as the father.
If you get over the expectation of living up the Frank Herbert and judge this book solely on its own and not part of a larger saga then it is a good read but unfortunately it is set in a wider universe which makes the continuity it expects us to sign up to quite unbelievable. Having read all of Frank herberts books you can see that these prequel books just don’t tie in, in a believable way faithful to the tone, narrative or overall feel of the universe they are set in.
If you ignore the whole wider universe and consider this a free standing book then it could be a good read although I can’t seem to do that.

Sisterhood of Dune (volume 1)

This was a highly enjoyable and much anticipated read. Quite literally 'literary Melange!' Exploring the beginings of the Bene Gesserit and other 'schools' it reveals more of the tantalazing threads in the Dune tapestry. I was particularly delighted at the return of Norma Cenva, and hope that in the sequels the authors will treat us to a more detailled exploration of her motivations. I'm very much looking forward to reading volume two.
