Publisher Description
The first in the Half-Moon Hollow series is “wry, delicious fun” (Susan Andersen, New York Times bestselling author) as it follows a librarian whose life is turned upside down by a tempestuous and sexy vampire.
Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children’s librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that’s sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.
Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She’s forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn’t enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What’s a nice undead girl to do?
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
In the first title of the Jane Jameson series, we meet our heroine: a recently fired librarian who—after drowning her sorrows with electric lemonades—is mistakenly shot by an equally inebriated deer hunter and wakes up as a new member of the undead. We loved following the formerly plain Jane as she navigates her way through the underworld (and the real world). Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs is a deliciously wicked, witty take on vampire romance.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hysterical laughs are the hallmark of this enchanting paranormal debut. Unceremoniously fired from her job as Half Moon Hollow's children's librarian, Jane Jameson drowns her sorrows with a handsome stranger, vampire Gabriel Nightengale. When Jane is accidentally shot, Gabriel saves her life by turning her undead. As Jane starts to get used to chatting with her dead aunt, finding creative ways to dodge her mother's nosy questions and enjoying the chemistry with Gabriel, she's brought up short by being named a suspect in a recent vampire murder. Jane's snarky first-person narrative is as charming as it is hilarious, retaining enough humanity to connect instantly with readers. Harper keeps the quips coming without overdoing the sarcasm, and her take on vampire lore will intrigue and entertain even the most jaded paranormal fan.
Customer Reviews
Fun, funny and enjoyable.
Jane has been living an OK life. With a job she loves at the library, but with all the evil in the world. She’s fired, which leads Jane to drink some mudslides and meet a nice man named Gabriel. Then some stuff happens and ta da! she’s a Vampire. I’m a fan of most Vampire books and I do love when a writer makes their own spin on the myth. This story was really witty, Jane is actually pretty funny and I’m surprised she couldn’t just have a profession as a comedian. I mean they can basically work only at night.
You are thrown in this new world with Jane. Trying to keep it a secret from certain people, but as you know. Secrets can only last so long. Though, I did enjoy this and I think it’s a great start to a series. I kind of felt that I was just sitting there waiting, and waiting for something to happen. Don’t get me wrong I did like the witty banter and the useless knowledge. I didn’t really start loving it till more towards the end.
I loved her Aunt Jettie, she was also hilarious. You can see why Jane loved and missed her so much. They had a connection and even in the afterlife. I would of liked to see more of her. All the characters were really well written and they all had a voice in this story.
One quote holds true, “Anyone can show up for stuff like graduations and birthdays. Only the people who truly love you will help you move.” I couldn’t agree more.
Overall, as I said before this is an enjoyable read. So if you're looking for some fun, funny Paranormal then this is a series that would be good to start with....Lissa
