Publisher Description
In this explosive psychological thriller by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger, a young woman’s mysterious gift lands her in the middle of a dangerous investigation of a little girl’s disappearance.
For as long as she can remember, twenty-year-old Finley Montgomery has been able to see into the future: dream about things before they happen, see beyond the physical world, and unconsciously make supernatural things happen. But Finley can’t control these powers, and moves to The Hollows to live with her grandmother, a renowned seer who can help Finely understand and master her gifts. But once in The Hollows, Finley’s gift proves to be both a blessing and a curse.
Like Finley, Merri and Wolf Montgomery are in the worst possible hell. Their daughter Abbey has been missing for ten months. Leads exhausted, the police have all but given up hope; but Merri is unable to shake the feeling that time is running out, and makes a desperate, last ditch effort to locate her daughter.
Finley and Merri are on winding, treacherous paths towards the same point. When they finally come together in The Hollows, nothing is as it seems. But one thing is clear: The Hollows always gets what it wants.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Psychic college student Finley Montgomery, the engaging heroine of bestseller Unger's uneven fourth Hollows thriller (after 2015's Crazy Love You), has fled her domineering mother and troubled life in Seattle to live with her famed psychic grandmother, Eloise Montgomery, in the Hollows, a small town in upstate New York. PI Jones Cooper, who sometimes does jobs for Eloise, has agreed to look into the disappearance of missing child Abbey Gleason, and when Finley begins receiving communications from a kidnapped girl, her grandmother tells her to take the case. Haunted by her visions and pursued by her ex-boyfriend and tattoo artist Rainer, Finley struggles to find Abbey before the Hollows a powerful place in its own right claims another victim. Philosophical musings slow the pace, and tattooed, tortured Finley ultimately fails to transcend clich . Still, Unger fans should enjoy this tale of troubled families finding redemption in the midst of tragedy.
Customer Reviews
If you like the cover you'll like what lies beneath...
I received a pre-release copy of Ink and Bone in exchange for an honest review. As a long-time fan of Lisa Unger's writing I am familiar with The Hollows and now, The Whispers series so I'm extremely excited and honored to get the opportunity to do so! This is one of my favorite genres to read and I am happy to say I was not let down by Ms. Unger's latest release. Ink and Bone is well-written, characters who seem real enough that I can relate to, empathize with, cheer for, and /or wanted to die a painful death. I love the title and the cover, merged together it is a perfect glimpse into the book itself.
The Hollows isn't just a town, those living in it not just residents, both points made often throughout the book though what that relationship actually is isn't readily answered. I still still find myself thinking about it days after I read the final page.
Ink and Bone is about a mothers desperate search for her daughter kidnapped during a vacation in the Hollows under brutal circumstances. The last chance she has in getting her daughter back is through a retired police officer turned detective (the detective from Lisa Unger's book Fragile also set in the Hollows) who has had success closing cases when all normal procedural methods failed. This success due to his sometime partner who is an elderly physic and lifetime resident of the Hollows experienced in working cases like these but whose time is ending. The Hollows has chosen her granddaughter whose time is just beginning, even though so struggles with her 'gifts', controlling them, what they are, and with fate versus freewill.
The Hollows, it's secrets, it's residents, what is and what isn't real and the never ending whispers through the trees all have a part to play in finding the young girl. Relationships between spouses and families runs as a back story eventually joining together with the main characters in this book. There is a point where you think you know what is happening or will happen, what and who is real but you will learn otherwise. Nowhere else other than The Hollows will a place have a greater impact on the lives of those who reside or visit. Therefore, beware of getting caught up in thinking you know what will happen next based on a belief that only actions by people can determine an outcome. Good and evil, greed and selflessness, past and present, freewill and fate...we all struggle with these but no one more so than those living among the whispering hollows.

Ink & bone
I normally lose interest in a book and never finish them but since I have found Lisa Unger this has changed! I found Ink & Bone hard to put down. I am going through her other books to see which one I want to try next.
