How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders? And how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?
Written and read by NYT best seller Brené Brown, Dare to Lead answers these questions and gives us actionable strategies and real examples from her new research-based, courage-building programme.
Leadership is not about titles, status and power over people. Leaders are people who hold themselves accountable for recognising the potential in people and ideas and developing that potential. This is an audiobook for everyone who is ready to choose courage over comfort, make a difference and lead.
When we dare to lead, we don't pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don't see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it and work to align authority and accountability. We don't avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into the vulnerability that's necessary to do good work.
But daring leadership in a culture that's defined by scarcity, fear and uncertainty requires building courage skills, which are uniquely human. The irony is that we're choosing not to invest in developing the hearts and minds of leaders at the same time we're scrambling to figure out what we have to offer that machines can't do better and faster. What can we do better? Empathy, connection and courage, to start.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
After inspiring millions with her message of embracing imperfection, Brené Brown turns her attention to what effective management looks like in today’s turbulent world. Seeking input from a wide range of business leaders, Brown develops a template for excelling in every facet of life. Her warm, personable narration makes us feel like we’re being treated to an extended one-on-one TED Talk. Using her own shortcomings as examples, Brown never pretends that behavioural change is easy—but her call for more empathetic leadership feels incredibly timely and necessary.

Fab
Love how Brene reads this and is mindful of what it is like for a listener rather than a reader.
The book has lots of practical tips, lists and ideas. For me would have been better in paper format so I could underline, review and better think over ideas and concepts shared.
Brene - the voice you want in your head
This is the third audio book I e listened to by Brene in addition to her Dare to Lead podcasts on which this book is based. What can I say other than this lady just speaks with vulnerability, courage, depth and humour and her voice is like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket on a cold day. She's kind, deeply considerate and openly reveals her own inadequacies and behavioural nuances that she continues to work on. This only enamours us more to Brene. She articulates the complexities of human behaviour in relatable ways and communicates strategies to help us navigate the many human conditions we often find ourselves in when leading teams in corporate, academic or sporting landscapes, community groups even families.
The concepts in this book relate to life. It's about becoming a better human.
My favorite of her books
Practical advice for leaders that can change the way you approach and grow your team. So important and well made - I'll be re-reading this again!
