Using the breadcrumb trail of her missing sister’s social media posts, Katy Sweeney retraces the solo road trip Phoebe took along Western Australia’s Coral Coast before her mysterious disappearance a year ago. Those posts comprise just one of several narrative hooks in this heart-pounding thriller, along with multiple perspectives, the rugged landscape and characters who have good reasons for lying about what they’re up to. UK-born, Australia-based author Anna Downes took the same trip as her characters while researching Red River Road, and that experience has helped her craft an eerie, unsettling atmosphere that spans both the online and real worlds.
