A bit fluffy...
I like the work of Leo babauta, his highly popular blog ‘zen habits’ is inspiring. This book ‘The effortless life’ has a good message to it; Ditch your goals and expectations and live in the moment. A beautiful philosophy, if only it was Practical living in 21st century modern life, outside a few elites. This books more suited to those who have established careers and stable incomes, like mr babauta, who no doubt owes a portion of his deserved success to goal setting and having a vision, in the past, which he openly admits in the book. Living in the moment and seeing where life takes you is a privileged position to be in, while most of us have to grapple each day with the reality of consciously moving our lives fwd just to survive in a hyper competitive, digitally obsessed world. This book is more autobiographical than a practical guide for you and me I found. To be fair There are other great messages in the book about ‘slowing down’ and accepting the moments we’re in and making compassionate decisions. But again ‘never doing anything you don’t like again’ doesn’t make any practical sense to those of us who live In the real world. I’m still a fan of Leo and will check out his other audiobooks which seem to be fairly priced and good value for money, if your subject is mindfulness and minimalism, but I take his directives with a respectful pinch of salt.
