Customer Reviews
Very short
Better than her latest books but not the depth of her original books. Needs spell check too.
Basic writing
Within the first quarter the author misspelled a name (Bogdi/Bodgi) which is such a silly error not to have been picked up by editors or the author themself. The premise was fine, but the story was told very obviously, with stunted dialogue and I did not feel gripped by it. If the author has to tell us that they’re flirting they’re not doing a good job of their descriptive writing. There were a lot of points of view in this book which I didn’t like. Hard to follow and make sense of where you are and who is who given there are quite a lot of characters mentioned. On the same page the character was drinking bourbon then took a sip of his scotch - such a silly inconsistency that really should have been picked up. It was written pretty basically, and I feel it could be made into a much better book by added volume and better descriptors and having a better understanding of how psychologists/psychiatrists practice. Their conversation was hard to believe, I dont know anyone that would say what they did in todays world. I stopped reading it before I got half way through.
Entertaining
I was excited when I heard that Kathryn Shay had a new series releasing and if this book is anything to go by, then she has a winning series on her hands. Jarek Zenko is an Afghanistan war vet turned firefighter/EMT who has a hard time letting down the walls he has built to protect himself.
He wasn’t looking for a relationship but meeting Lacey Roth, an adolescent psychiatrist he feels the walls beginning to crumble. The heart wants to who the heart wants and as he gets to know Lacey he finds himself beginning to hope
I really loved Lacey, she is such a strong, independent woman who refuses to settle for less than she deserves and I admired that. I am excited to see what Ms. Shay has in store for the rest of the series
