Off to a solid start
I was excited when I learnt that Kathryn Shay had a new series releasing, particularly since it is a series based on strong women and I couldn’t wait to dive in to More Than Enough.
The writing was strong, with characters that were easy to relate to and a story line that you cannot help but become invested in.
This is firefighter Trish “Mac” Mackenzie and kindergarten teacher Nathan Mitchell’s story and I was hooked from the first chapter. This is an emotional story that brought me to tears on occasion; having been verbally abused as a child and then by her boyfriend, Mac has no self confidence.
When Mac and Nathan meet he feels a connection, but since she already has a boyfriend he knows it cannot go further. However once Mac gets away from her abusive boyfriend, Nathan is there to offer support in any way he can.
I really loved Nathan, he is so swoon worthy, loyal and supportive and I fell hard and fast for him. The chemistry and connection between them is obvious but Mac needs time to heal emotionally and build up her self confidence.
Ms. Shay handled this subject matter with dignity and respect, she isn’t afraid to write about characters that are flawed, human if you will and who are not afraid to seek therapy and help when it all becomes too much.
I am excited to see what Ms. Shay has in store for the rest of the series.
Needs greater depth
While the story line was great and has a lot of merit, there’s lots of inconsistencies in Mac’s character that don’t align with her history, nor is the recovery timeframe plausible with her history.
