Publisher Description
Charlie Trumper's earliest memory is of hearing his grandfather's sales patter from behind his costermonger's barrow. When Grandpa Charlie dies, young Charlie wants nothing more than to follow in his footsteps - his burning ambition is to own a shop that will sell everything: "The Biggest Barrow in the World".
Charlie's progress from the teeming streets of Whitechapel to the elegance of Chelsea Terrace is only a few miles as the crow flies. But in Jeffrey Archer's expert hands it becomes an epic journey through the triumphs and disasters of the century, as Charlie follows a thread of love, ambition and revenge to fulfil the dream his grandfather inspired.

As the Crow Flies
If you are a baby-boomer with extended family from southern England you will really empathise with the setting of this enticing tale. Surely you will recall Lyons Tea House if you took the annual shopping trip to Marks & Spencer and Harvey Nichols. And, if you emigrated in the seventies, a bigger bonus. A great read.
Great, but sad story.
Maybe it's just me and my age, but a saga (like the Clifton Chronicles) that starts with very young people in a story that outlines their journeys to old age and death is not entertaining. That and the numerous typographical errors, missing words and sections give rise to confusion and distraction. Strange. Jeffrey Archer's books are usually professionally edited, this one shouldn't be sold at the same price as others. A shame.
