About the author
Amy Beashel is the author of three previous novels, including two for young adults, which have been nominated for the Carnegie and the Branford Boase awards among others. She lives and works in Shropshire.

British novelist Amy Beashel is big on women who refuse conform to misogynistic social norms—her 2023 book Spilt Milk is a candid portrayal of a mother on the edge. In a similar vein, Bad Manners is a fearless portrayal of power differentials and the kind of appalling behaviour we hear about depressingly often in the news. The action revolves around a posh charity dinner, populated solely by patriarchal, wealthy, drunk men. What could possibly go right? The young female serving staff are inevitably like lambs to the slaughter. It’s a story that’ll have you seething with rage one moment and wide-eyed with admiration for Beashel’s writing the next.
