APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
British author Mhairi McFarlane has once again delivered a gorgeous page-turner that confidently lands in that sweet spot between comedy and heartbreaking gut-punch. Last Night follows a group of friends in their early thirties as they try to find their footing after an unexpected tragedy. Romantic troubles brew as long-held secrets are uncovered and the group’s capacity to withstand emotional hardship evaporates. Packed with brilliant touches and pop culture references, McFarlane’s dialogue crackles with fiery wit. Told through the eyes of charming protagonist Eve, the novel explores how sometimes, friends can become more important than family, and even the strongest family ties can twist and break. It’s an absorbing read.

Another great read
Once again I love this latest book by Mhairi. I would have liked a little more together time for the leads - I felt their coming together was a bit cut short and rushed at the end.
Easy read
Well written and easy to read. Loved all the characters and felt like I knew them!
Trigger warning! Not light and funny
I was completely blindsided by this. I expected a light comedy and was absolutely devastated by the deep realistic grief and trauma caused by the sudden passing of a friend. Maybe my grief is still too raw but I really didn’t need the extreme descriptions of shock, grief and identifying a friends body. I couldn’t keep reading. I honestly believe this should come with a trigger warning and the description in no way prepares you for the devastating material. :(
