What was the point?

Books/literature I feel is down to individualistic interpretation and very rarely is one presented with material that is difficult to interpret. I found this book just that - I was unable to understand or interpret this piece of work. The style and language used was good, but I kept asking my self - what is the author getting at? Will there be a conclusion - something that I can take away and feel that there was finality.....
