A debut novel? Wow, this girl's got talent!

A debut novel? Wow, this girl's got talent!

Cut is an eventful story about a young woman, Penelope, whose life is in somewhat of a whirlwind of men, love, heart-break, relationships, depression, friendships, opportunity, emotions, challenges, decision-making.... circumstances we have all been in before. Just as the reader can understand; you just don't know what life is going to throw at you!

I enjoyed the way Kathleen Maree uses a writing technique where the character's internal dialogue is revealed often throughout the novel. It gives the reader an insight into the character's thoughts and encourages character development; something Kathleen has managed to build within the story very well.

Being Australian myself, I appreciated the links to my home city, Sydney and was able to feel like I was right there in the story. The story then takes the reader internationally, in addition to Australia, providing a diverse setting and location.

All in all the novel was an engaging and enjoyable read. I eagerly await the release of the second book, as the first book left me asking questions and pondering over possibilities. This unpredictability keeps the reader guessing and brings an element of surprise. Bring on #2!bc

Cut - By Kathleen Maree

I feel so incredibly honoured to have read this debut novel. This story follows newly heartbroken Penelope Price who does not know how to move on with her life after the shock separation from her decade long partner Evan. With the help of her best friend Rosie, she finally emerges from her bed to have a night out at a local club, where she meets Jay, a complicated musician. Despite her instant attraction to Jay Penelope is far from ready for a new relationship and does not think her broken heart will ever be healed. I really enjoyed this book, having a main character who was likeable and relatable, because who hasn't had their heart broken at least once? This story really tugged at my heart and sent me through many different emotions throughout. It was unpredictable, suspenseful and had me captivated from the very beginning. I was disappointed when it ended and it left me thinking about it for the rest of the day. I cannot wait for the next one. I'm sure Cut will be the first successful book of many by this very talented Author.
