Excellent READ
I thought this was a good book, as were the previous books in this series. I recommend that you read the books to understand how Mary Ann came to find herself under Dean’s protection. This couple faced many obstacles that caused them to stumble, but they always found ways to stay afloat.
Mary Ann was traumatized. Her self-esteem was in tatters, and guilt weighed heavily on her shoulders. I wanted to comfort her one moment and shake her the next, mainly when she listened to the nasty voices in her head. What I did like was that she was brave enough to ask Dean for what she wanted. Not that it was always what she needed. Her behavior showed she was childlike and could explore her little with someone she trusted. MaryAnn surprised me with her courage taking back power when she needed it the most. I'm not sure if she was brave or foolish.
Dean took protecting Maryann seriously. He was a man trying to escape his past, but painful memories stopped him from having a future. There was a band of steel protecting his heart, but little by little MaryAnn broke through, leaving Dean vulnerable. Dean was a man of integrity and refused to punish Mary Ann for things out of her control. However, he punished her for breaking the rules set in place to protect her. It was only when Dean thought he might lose Maryann that he realized that she was his future.
This book would not have been as enjoyable without the secondary characters who played a significant role in the storyline. I enjoyed every moment of this book as Dean and MaryAnn healed each other
