Publisher Description
The whole of bestselling author Raymond E. Feist backlist, master of magic and adventure, now available in ebook
Successful screenwriter Phil Hastings decides to move his family from sunny California to a ramshackle farmhouse in New York State. The idea is to take some time out, relax and pick up the threads of his career as a novelist.
Good plan, bad choice. The place they choose is surrounded by ancient woodland. The house they choose is the centrepoint of a centuries-old evil intent on making its presence felt to intruders.

About the author
Feist was born and raised in California, and he still lives there today. He is a global super bestselling author, hitting top ten lists on every continent, making him one of the most popular fantasy writers of all time.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Feist, author of the popular Magician fantasy trilogy, turns to the horror genre in this slick, only partially successful novel of a very modern family newly settled into a house on the edge of an enchanted woods. Each member of the familyretired actress Gloria Hastings, her novelist and screenwriter husband Phil, his teenage daughter by a previous marriage, their twin eight-year-old boys, and a dog and a catis touched in some way by "the Bad Thing,'' as the boys call it, which turns out to be a forest spirit out of ancient folklore. Feist builds atmosphere with intimations of the supernatural that soon escalate into outright violence. It is the boys who most clearly perceive the Bad Thing, and who eventually confront and defeat it. While the plot has some intriguing features, the book is afflicted by a superficiality of characterization and a flat, uninteresting style. 150,000 first printing; $150,000 ad/promo; BOMC and QPBC selections.
Customer Reviews
A favourite of mine
After reading the publishers weekly review and others on here I feel I have to write my own review of this wonderful book. This isn't a horror story. It's urban fantasy at its best and is really a young adult book. Great for teenagers. I loved this book as a sixteen year old and read it again and again. I was utterly absorbed by it. It's engaging, pacy, atmospheric and surreal. I loved it.
Terrible
I am a big fan of Raymond feist. Magician is my favourite book. I therefore was looking forward to reading this book. It is terrible just terrible. Do not bother!
iBook Doesn't work
I downloaded this book and it has only title page and last page that is readable. I have done all updates, uninstalled and re-installed, and anything else you can think of and the issue is still there. Very disappointing as i was looking forward to reading this. Has anyone else experienced this problem?? How do i fix it??
