SOON TO BE A MAJOR BBC AMERICA SERIES, STARRING ELISABETH MOSS
Typhoid Mary: a selfish monster, or a hounded innocent?
They called her Typhoid Mary. They believed she was sick, that she was passing typhoid fever from her hands to the food that she served. They said she should have known.
But Mary wasn't sick. She hadn't done anything wrong.
She wasn't arrested right away. There were warnings. Requests. And when she was finally taken, she did not go quietly. Branded a murderer and condemned by press and public alike, Mary continued to fight for her freedom, no matter the cost...
Fever casts a brilliant light over the life of a figure once described as 'the most dangerous woman in America', and Mary Beth Keane's fictional account is as fiercely compelling as Typhoid Mary herself.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Delving into the real events surrounding the typhoid breakout in turn-of-the-century New York, this gripping novel is a great example of history brought vividly to life in fiction. It reads something like a thriller, keeping you guessing about Typhoid Mary’s motivations and guilt right to the end.
Customer Reviews
Fantastic!
An absolute pleasure to read!
Good read
Good read - not brilliant but kept me engaged- I think the frustration of the times got to me and made me angry - thank goodness medicine/science had come much further today ! Jumped a bit back and forth for my liking
Typhoid Mary's story
Very engaging and well written. An interesting time when science and medicine were making discoveries about causes of disease, and public health measures were initiated to protect the health of populations. But imperfect knowledge and clumsy and heavy handed measures, which in Mary's case, treated her as both a scientific guinea pig, a criminal, and a social pariah.
