PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
At the start of this suspenseful, expertly paced thriller from bestseller Barclay (Elevator Pitch), two people identifying themselves as police bang on the door of 21-year-old Todd Cox, who runs phone scams targeting the elderly out of his trailer home near Springfield, Mass. Eager to appear innocent, Cox lets them in, only to discover they're frauds. The fake cops inject Cox with a lethal drug before sealing him in a body bag and sanitizing the place and the surrounding area. One of them comments, "Two down. Seven to go." Flash back three weeks. Miles Cookson, a Connecticut software millionaire, has been diagnosed with incurable Huntington's disease. As Huntington's is genetic, Cookson decides to use his affluence to bribe a desperate employee of the sperm bank he donated to decades earlier to trace any possible children, both to warn them that they may carry fatal genes and to name them in his will. The list he gets contains nine names, including Cox's, hinting at a link to the initial homicide. Barclay makes even secondary characters feel real. Fans of Daniel Palmer will be pleased.

Best I’ve read from this author
The author is a US-born Canadian journalist turned internationally best selling novelist (24 titles and counting).
In brief
Up in New England, a never married fiftyish tech billionaire re-evaluates his life after being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. He has doesn’t want to leave everything his older brother, because he doesn’t trust the guy’s wife (with good reason). Although our boy never had kids of his own, he did donate generously to a sperm bank back in the day when money was tight. He decides he should let the fruit of his loins, assuming he can find them, know what they might be in for, and bestow on them sufficient cash the they can be looked after. His loyal and highly efficient androgynous personal assistant of ten years gets busy despite being more than a little p****d off about being left out of the succession plan herself, and comes up with a list. Meanwhile, down in the Big Apple, a big-time celebrity wheeler-dealer, master of the universe type, who owns or controls anyone and everyone that matters, has some issues with his private life he’d rather not become public knowledge (issues of the Jeffery Epstein type, if you get my drift). He comes up with the same list, but his intentions towards them are rather less beneficent. Two worlds then collide.
Writing
Crisp, clear, well-paced and plotted. Character development satisfactory for purpose. The main players are stereotypical rather than frank caricatures.
Bottom line
The best book I have read by this author. (n=3. Don’t get too excited)
Omg!!!!
Read this book in a day. Couldn’t put it down. An absolute roller coaster of plot twists and turns.
