The premise of Five Feet Apart may sound familiar—girl with life-threatening illness meets boy with same—but this YA heartbreaker feels entirely fresh. That’s thanks in large part to the skill of Rachael Lippincott, who adapted the novel from a screenplay for a movie coming out in 2019. Lippincott’s witty, assured style heightens the emotional impact of the star-crossed courtship of Stella and Will, two teens battling cystic fibrosis. We were so invested in these characters we couldn’t help but hold out hope for a happy ending.

High school senior Stella Grant has cystic fibrosis and is tired of living a life in which "CF gets the final say." Stella is strong and goal-oriented she manages her medications with an app she designed and uses YouTube Live to educate others about CF. Her to-do list is a mile long, but she's truly thrown off course when she meets artist Will Newman, another CF patient in a new drug trial at the hospital where they are both staying. Eight months earlier, he was diagnosed with B. cepacia, which knocked him off the lung transplant list and also means that he must stay several feet away from Stella or risk her health, even when they start falling for each other. She chastises him for not following his care plan; he trivializes her vigilant focus ("So is your plan to die really, really smart so you can join the debate team of the dead?"). Adapted from a screenplay, the novel uses alternating points of view to capture the teens' desires to explore and seek freedom. The characterizations are thinly fleshed out, but readers interested in The Fault in Our Stars style tales may root for them and their budding romance. Ages 12 up.

Leaves you in tears the most amazing book to read I love it so much and I’m excited to watch the movie
Cloud Five Feet Apart
I have just finished the medical romance novel Five Feet Apart, now a major motion picture starring Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse. I have read a number of MRs (medical romances) including The Fault in Our Stars and Everything Everything this was without a doubt my favourite. One might even say I’m on Cloud Five. Stella and Will’s flaws and devotion for each other made them crazily ambitious and it was so humane that almost relatable, and it drew tension incredibly well. Even though I struggle to understand many medical terms, Rachel made it easy to understand and fathom Poe, Will and Stella’s conditions.
This was an excellent book and is going to be very popular amongst other Young Adult readers alike myself and I look forward to watching the movie in cinemas.

This is my favourite book of all time! The story is so touching and I love all the characters. I highly recommend!
