Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is situated on the eastern side of the Pearl River estuary on the southeastern coast of China, bordering Shenzhen City of Guangdong Province. It is made up of the Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories and 230 smaller isles. On the total area of 1092 square kilometres, it has a population of more than 6.6 million, of which 96% are Chinese. Most people speak English and Cantonese, although Mandarin began to be popular gradually since the regress in 1997.
